Sylvia Waters is a traditional painter of people and places.
Born in Southern California, she developed an interest in art at an early age and was an art major in school. In college she attended art and design classes. She also took portrait lessons from a prominent portrait artist. Sylvia painted commission portraits then later did a series of children's faces in clown make up. These paintings were purchased by a national distributor of fine art. She began painting seascapes from her surroundings. They sold well and she received many awards. Several of her seascapes were put into print, singed limited edition lithographs.
For several years, Sylvia owned and operated an art school, The Sylvia Waters Art Center, in the South Bay area of Los Angles where children and adult classes were in demand.
Sylvia then became an Artist Member of the American Society of Marine Artist (ASMA) that encouraged her to research ships, past and present. Her work has been in many maritime shows in museums across the country, including the ASMA National Show in Vero Beach, Florida
Sylvia is also a Professional Artist Member of the International Society of Marine Painters. Her work has been sold in galleries in La Jolla, Carmel, Las Vegas and Scottsdale, to name only a few.
Presently, she works out of her studio in Big Bear Lake, California.
